MOSSEL BAY NEWS -  18 July was a day of uniting Mossel Bay’s youth, local creatives, activists and entrepreneurs, and the celebration of Mandela Day, at an event held at the KwaNonqaba Community Hall.

Organised by Black Sheep Network, a group of local activists and entrepreneurs, the event also marked the inauguration of the Mossel Bay Big 3 movement.

Walter Blaq, one of the event’s organisers, said the vision was to unite people through arts, culture and social impact. The day featured a variety of local talent, including rappers, singers, DJs, dancers, poets, MCs and models. 

It also offered attendees a chance to play some indigenous games and to experience the thrill of theatre with some drama performances.

Blaq said there were traditional dances, and photographers and media creatives were also present. The aim was to allow local artists to perform, tell their stories and connect with the community.

“We also had local businesses and community organisations with stalls, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services while engaging directly with the attendees,” Blaq said.

He added that iOcean Trust had supported the event by hosting an educational and interactive stand that offered activities encouraging environmental awareness and community involvement. He said this complemented the spirit of Mandela Day. 

“Overall, the day celebrated local talent, community collaboration and service, while launching the Mossel Bay Big 3 movement as a long-term initiative for youth development and creative opportunities,” he said.

Blaq said the Black Sheep team documented the whole event and did interviews with the artists who were present. These will be uploaded to their YouTube channel, Black Sheep Network, soon.
