MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A month after the tragic passing of Eugene Theron (55) in a motorcycle accident on 19 March, his wife, Chantel (55), died on Friday 17 April while in hospital, recovering from injuries sustained during the accident.
The two had been travelling on the R328 in the direction of Brandwag at about 21:00 when their motorcycle collided into a cow crossing the road.
Emergency medical services declared Eugene dead on the scene, and Chantel was taken to a hospital in George for further medical treatment.
According to Chantel’s family, she had suffered two broken legs and was confined to a bed in order to recover. Despite the doctors’ efforts, she died from a blood clot that had developed over time.
Her mother, Yvonne, described Chantel as a beautiful child of God with a love of animals and biking, an interest she shared with Eugene.
“Our children are at peace, in no more pain,” said Eugene’s mother, Hester Jongbloed.
As per Chantel’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held.
Following the accident, the Da Gamaskop Police in Mossel Bay have opened a case of culpable homicide.
