GREAT BRAK RIVER NEWS AND VIDEO - The Little Brak estuary was breached today, 30 August, after an application on Wednesday, 25 August, for a section 30A directive for the opening of the mouth. The estuary was closed for quite a while and the berm was approximately 0.5m high.
Over the last two weeks, the river levels have been rising substantially.
A private road was flooded and the access road to the public boat launching site near Power Town was affected.
The application to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) was submitted and approved by all the relevant authorities.
With officials of the municipality and DWS on site, the contractor and onlookers the excavations started just after 08:00 today and the water started flowing just after 10:00.
According to officials it would have been ideal if there was more water coming from higher up in the river to thoroughly flush the contents of the river to the sea.
