Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the murders of a Mossel Bay couple, Dina (73) and Ernst Marais (71), who were brutally killed in the Kruger National Park in Limpopo last month.
According to statement released by the office of the acting national SAPS commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, on 12 June, Macandze Lionel da Marta (26), a Mozambican national, was arrested in Zimbabwe following a regional cooperation between the SAPS, the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Republic of Mozambique and the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
“The third suspect managed to evade arrest and fled into Zimbabwe, where he was subsequently traced and apprehended,” reads the statement.
Da Marta is expected to be deported back to Mozambique, where he will face murder charges alongside two other suspects, who were arrested in Mozambique on 1 and 2 June.
At the time of their arrest, Ernst and Dina’s missing vehicle was also recovered in Mozambique.
“This successful arrest underscores the strength of regional policing cooperation,” said Dimpane. “Our message is clear: criminals will be pursued across borders, and through collective regional efforts, will be brought before the courts to answer for their crimes.”
