LITTLE BRAK RIVER NEWS - Having travelled over two continents and five countries, Murfie, a 10-year-old Siamese cat from Little Brak River, has visited more places than most people.
Murfie now lives with his owner, John Thackray, in Spain, and his new brother, an adopted black cat named Gilbert.
Thackray says Murfie has a Maltese passport now, while Gilbert has a Spanish passport.
"So between the three of us we have collected four passports: Maltese, Spanish, British and South African."
Murfie's adventures have included four plane flights, overnight stays in hotels in Malta and Rome and a road trip from Barcelona to Valencia.
Murfie has a Maltese passport because Malta was the first country in the European Union where Thackray and Murfie lived, back in 2018.
Thackray said he got Murfie as a birthday present in 2014 from his best friend, Brent Murphy, his namesake.
"Murfie is South African by birth, from a farm near Botlierskop in Little Brak and now lives in Spain. He spent a few months of his youth in Da Nova, Mossel Bay, with my parents in the house I grew up in, while I renovated my apartment in Cape Town. His first trip was driving to Cape Town, where I then lived. But he used to visit Mossel Bay with me when I visited my parents. He is a good traveller," said Thackray.
"He is laid back. He is a bit like an Aristocat and he loves tuna, but can't eat tuna every day."
He says Murfie is now retired from travelling. "Murfie has travelled to Frankfurt, Rome and Barcelona. That's not too bad for a Little Brak cat, aged 10," he said.
