Double murder accused back in court

GREAT BRAK RIVER NEWS - A man who was hunted by police for two years following the brutal murders of a Great Brak River couple made his second court appearance on Friday, 11 January.

Lebohang Lekoro fled to Lesotho after 72-year-old Tewie Human and his 62-year-old wife, Eurika, were murdered in their home in June 2016. On the day of the murders, R14 000 was transferred from the couple’s account to an account in Lesotho.

Twenty-seven-year-old Lekoro, who worked for the couple, was arrested in Bloemfontein in November last year. Police said he made the mistake of crossing the border back to South Africa which made it much easier for them to make a speedy arrest. He appeared in the Great Brak River Magistrates Court on two charges of murder and more charges might be added to the charge sheet. Lekoro’s friend, 26-year-old Tamsanqa Sishuba, is already serving two life sentences for his involvement in the murders.

Son in law of the Human couple, Gerhard Pietersen wrote on his social media page shortly after Lekoro's arrest in November last year: "Ons sou nooit rus kry nie. Dit was 'n lang pad tot hiertoe vir ons almal. Uiteindelik sal ons mekaar nou binnekort in die oë kan kyk. Dit bring wel skielik memories terug, maar die las voel ligter. Baie dankbaar teenoor mense wat saam met ons die enjin gedryf het. Never, Never give up. The Lord listens to cries of the oppressed."

The case was postponed to 29 January and Lekoro remains in custody.
