GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - The Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM), Knysna Municipality, business chambers and business forums in the region connected on Tuesday, 8 March in Knysna to establish a quarterly Garden Route Business Advisory Forum.
In a statement the municipality said the forum is the first of its kind at a district level in the Western Cape and will serve to promote an inclusive business environment.
GRDM Mayor Memory Booysen said they also plan to form task teams to promote critical sectors like tourism, agriculture and construction.
During Booysen’s overview of the advisory forum, he explained that it was established as envisaged in the Garden Route Economic Recovery Plan. This recovery plan is a widely consulted, joint plan by businesses and the government in the Garden Route, which was adopted by the GRDM council.
Booysen also touched on his past experiences, saying investors have asked questions that only business chambers’ representatives would have answers to. “The GRDM does not plan to engage with international investors without business chamber representatives being present,” he said. “This platform will also help us to establish which business would be the best suited for the type of investor we are planning to engage with.”
