MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Music lovers were recently treated to an unforgettable evening as the Carpe Musicam! Pops Band took to the stage at the Bartolomeu Dias Museum in Mossel Bay for a vibrant and sold-out concert.
The performance featured wind players drawn from the Carpe Musicam! Concert Orchestra as well as music students of a variety of ages, making for a versatile ensemble.
The evening’s success was made possible in part through the generous support of the Dias Museum, whose premises provided the perfect setting for the event.
A special word of appreciation goes to pianist Elsabe Barkhuizen, whose exceptional planning ensured a seamless and memorable concert experience.

She not only performed on the piano, but also took on the role of conductor, traditionally held by Norman Carless, guiding the Pops Band with precision and flair.
The programme offered a rich and varied musical journey, appealing to a wide audience.
Classical enthusiasts were treated to selections from Beethoven, while fans of contemporary classics were delighted by a lively tribute to ABBA. The Pops Band masterfully blended hits such as “Mamma Mia”, “Money, Money, Money” and “Dancing Queen” into a seamless medley that had the audience thoroughly engaged.
Adding to the nostalgic atmosphere, the Pops Band performed highlights from Queen’s greatest hits, including “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We Will Rock You”, evoking enthusiastic responses from attendees.
A touching rendition of “Heidi’s Theme Song” further transported listeners back in time, stirring a sense of warmth and nostalgia.
The concert selling out just goes to show how popular Carpe Musicam!’s productions have become.
Looking ahead, the community is invited to the upcoming Winter With Carpe Musicam!, scheduled at Curro Mossel Bay’s school hall at 15:00 on 12 July. This performance will feature the concert orchestra and choir.
