MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A 39-year-old man was recently denied bail in the case in which he stands accused of raping and attempting to kill a woman who was reportedly five months pregnant at the time.
The incident took place on Rietvlei Farm, KwaNonqaba, between 14 and 15 February.
According to the court documents, the man is facing three counts of rape, attempted housebreaking with the intention to commit a crime unknown to the prosecutor, and attempted murder.
The man had allegedly tried to suffocate the woman by placing a plastic bag over her head and hitting her with an unknown object.
Mossel Bay Advertiser has been reliably informed that the woman was five months pregnant at the time of the incident and that the ordeal had fortunately not affected her pregnancy.
A case was opened at the KwaNonqaba Police Station and handed over to the Mossel Bay Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
The man, whose identity is known to the Advertiser but cannot be made public until he has pleaded, remains behind bars and is set to appear in court again on 13 May.
