MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Investigating officers from the Mossel Bay police unit for Family Violence and Child Protection Services (FCS) recently ensured that offenders from Mossel Bay got sentenced to jail for a total of 100 years for various charges including rape and sexual assault.
The dedication of Warrant Officer Soretha van Zyl, Sergeant Mantshadi Mofokeng and Sergeant Ntobeko Nogcinisa brought criminals to justice.
Sgt Mantshadi Mofokeng investigated a case involving six-year-old and nine-year-old girls who were raped and sexually assaulted on different occasions in Asla Park by a 32-year-old man. Her investigation revealed that the offender promised the children sweets and lured them to a remote area, where he raped and sexually assaulted them in 2019.
The man was handed down a sentence in the Mossel Bay Regional Court of 20 years' imprisonment.
Sgt Ntobeko Nogcinisa dealt with a 49-year-old accused that faced charges of kidnapping, rape, robbery and attempted murder.
The matter related to the kidnapping of a 49-year-old Mossel Bay woman. The offender was sentenced to 36 years' imprisonment.
In another case, Wo Van Zyl worked around the clock to bring the accused, Thomas Tshivhase, to justice for kidnapping and raping a 13-year-old girl from Great Brak River in December 2018.
Tshivhase was sentenced to life imprisonment. In a separate case that Sgt Van Zyl investigated, a 12-year-old girl from Mossel Bay confided to her that she had been raped, five years after the first rape had occurred. The victim was raped by her neighbour and he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
“It’s not work that we could have done without the help of the prosecutors in the Regional Court,” the police investigators said.
Warrent officer, Soretha van Zyl, Sgt Mantshadi Mofokeng and Sgt Ntobeko Nogcinisa, the police officers from the Mossel Bay police unit for Family Violence and Child Protection Services (FCS). Because of their thorough investigations, various sexual offenders were recently sentenced to all together 100 years imprisonment.
