MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The KwaNonqaba Police have brought a group of seven youths from 17 to 21 years old to book following a series of violent crimes in their service area.
The youths, according to Sgt Kappie Kapp, have been involved in several cases of assault and attempted murder over a period of time.
"The seriousness and the occurrence of these incidents showed an increase from 1 August. Thanks to good detective work and the cooperation of the community, the perpetrators were arrested on Sunday, 22 August. They are still in custody and will appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court this week," Kapp told the Mossel Bay Advertiser at the time of going to print.
Kapp said the youths apparently resided in the same neighbourhood and that their actions may have had roots in trying to "create a reign of terror" in several surrounding neighbourhoods.
"The group recently descended on residents in Zone 7, KwaNonqaba. The group assaulted six members of the community."
Kapp said that information received from the community indicated it had reached a point of being fed up with the state of affairs and therefore assisted the police so they could make the arrests.
"We have also involved the Department of Social Development in the case, where minors are concerned," Kapp said.
The investigating officers in the case are sergeants Malungisi Kekaza and Vusi Ndala.
