MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Economist Dawie Roodt from the Efficient Group, addressed members of the Mossel Bay Business Chamber on Friday, 25 February - his topic being the budget speech by Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana.
Roodt said that the economy is balancing on a knife’s edge and that it is clear from the minister’s budget speech this week that there is no space for movement, should the plans and projections not pan out.
He also stated that it is clear that the Godongwana does not have confidence in the country’s economy.
Despite painting a bleak picture, Roodt said that South Africa is still the land of opportunity, if you position yourself correctly.
He emphasized that, among other things, exceptional political leadership is required to bring economic turnaround. Roodt was also speaking at a breakfast at Point High School Friday morning.
