GEORGE NEWS - The festive season is normally a time when friends and families reunite after a year’s hard work and then finally get together to reconnect and relax.
Sometimes family members only get to see each other every second year but for Glenda and Glynis this past festive season brought them together after 43 years!
The two cousins grew up together in Bulawayo in the old Rhodesia and were related by their fathers who were brothers.
Glenda and her sister Trisha always looked forward to spending some time with older cousin Glynis and they did get up to some good old-fashioned mischief sometimes!
With the extreme political situation in Rhodesia, the Law family left the country and Glynis ended up in the United Kingdom.
As time passed, contact was lost between the family members until about a year and a half ago when Glynis found Trisha’s daughter on Facebook.
Soon after, Glenda and Glynis started communicating again and Glynis, still residing in Notting Hill London, decided after retirement, to come and visit Glenda and all other family members in South Africa and those still residing in Zimbabwe.
When Glynis stepped off the plane at George Airport, she had no idea what to expect from this long-lost cousin and Glenda and husband Wally were also a bit nervous about their soon to be guest!
When they finally saw each other physically for the first time it was as if time stood still and they just carried on laughing, joking and making the best of the time together.
Glenda and Wally Maritz were the perfect hosts and treated Glynis to all that Mossel Bay and surrounds have to offer.
Glynis enjoyed every moment of her visit and the two cousins spent every evening reminiscing about the old days.
They looked at old photographs and a lot of “do you remember” moments were shared.
Glynis left for Cape Town from where she will embark on a three month stay visiting other relatives and friends before returning to England.
They will definitely not lose contact again!
