MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Independent Entrepreneurs' Association (IEA) in Mossel Bay has donated R4 000 to the KwaNonqaba Police Station Victim Support Centre.
Carpets, curtains and various other basic furnishings and equipment are needed at the support centre.
The IEA runs various craft markets in the Mossel Bay area and the Goods Shed indoor flea market in Bland Street.
The money supplied by the IEA to the victim support centre was generated by the three Christmas night markets held by the IEA last year. Each year there is a Christmas night market in Marsh Street and two in Hartenbos. Funds from these go to the various charities and organisations to which the IEA contributes. These include victim support centres at police stations, senior citizens' homes, the National Sea Rescue Institute, the mayor's charity fund, the Siyanithanda Disabled Child Care Centre and health care clinics.
Oliver Twist Project
In the 20 March edition of the Mossel Bay Advertiser it was publicised via the Advertiser's Oliver Twist Project that the KwaNonqaba Police Station Victim Support Centre would benefit from donations. The Oliver Twist Project identifies worthy causes in the Mossel Bay area and channels funds and useful items to these.
IEA vice chairman Noor Boolay and Shirley Coetzee, manager of the Oliver Twist Project made contact and Boolay arranged for the donation of R4 000.
Boolay said: "There is a stallholder from Hermanus who comes to Mossel Bay each year and sells goods at the markets here. Without fail, every year she gives R5 000 to go to charity. She says she is reaping in the Mossel Bay area, so she wants to sow here too."
KwaNonqaba Community Police Forum (CPF) chairman Edgar Ntebe said:
"The CPF executive extends its sincere gratitude to the IEA for the intention to assist us with our trauma room at KwaNonqaba SAPS. "In a time of so many challenges, it warms my heart to know there are so many good people out there. May God bless you and your families."
