MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) Mossel Bay branch has expressed its concern about some voters being registered incorrectly on the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) voters' roll.
The party called on Mossel Bay residents to ensure their registration details are correct, otherwise they will not be able to vote.
"Many residents who have lived and voted in Mossel Bay for many years have discovered they have suddenly been registered to vote in other provinces or towns. This would disqualify them should they wish to vote in the 2024 elections as the new law states that you can only vote where you live, unless you have applied for a special vote.
"Please check your registration status urgently, by sending your Identity Number via SMS to 32810."
The IEC said it was not aware of the issue in question, however, in the case where voters find they are registered in another area, not where they live, "it is advisable to ensure they update their details by visiting their local IEC office (in Powry Street) or go to the online voter registration portal, registertovote.elections.org.za, or our chat bot on the 0600 88 00 00 WhatsApp line".
"The IEC reminds South Africans that, while the date has been set and announced, eligible voters have until Friday, 23 February, to register."
