MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay resident Deon Lensing is a contestant in the Mr South Africa pageant this year.
Deon is already the reigning Sir Garden Route (2021-22) and Sir Western Cape (2021-22).
At the Talent Africa Nationals in Cape Town in 2021, Deon scooped two gold medals in modelling and his national colours. After this he competed in Stars of the Universe, the international leg of the Talent Africa contest, and won two gold medals.
Deon won the Eden SA Warrior King and Queen photo competition in January this year.
He is a financial adviser and the secretary of the Anti-Bullying Academy non-profit organisation.
'I am there to take a stand'
Deon told the Mossel Bay Advertiser he entered the Mr South Africa contest because people needed role models to look up to. Regarding bullying, he said: "So many people struggle to find hope. I am there in the community to raise awareness about bullying and to take a stand against it, nationally."
Through his pageant charity work he has also been involved in supporting animal welfare projects over the years.
He is a spinning instructor at a gym in Mossel Bay and is working towards a qualification in personal training.
Aged 32, Deon is probably older than most of the entrants in Mr South Africa, many of whom are in their 20s. He hopes that being older and more experienced will be an advantage in the competition.
