MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - The KwaNonqaba-police this morning responded in force to yet another stabbing at the Indwe Secondary School.
This followed an incident yesterday where a 19-year old learner of the school was stabbed in the back by another 19-year old learner off school premises. The accused in yesterday's incident was since arrested.
This morning, however, a vehicle was used by learners to bring a bag full of weapons to the school.
Apparently a group of learners waited for others, who were busy writing a test, to finish their test before this morning's stabbings occurred. When a teacher tried to intervene to restore the calm, she was assaulted by the learners. Two learners suffered stab wounds in this morning's incident.
It was also reported that some of the perpetrators were not from Indwe, but attend other schools in the area. The KwaNonqaba Police responded in their numbers and confiscated a number of dangerous weapons. They also managed to trace the vehicle that distributed the weapons and arrested those involved.
In total, five people were arrested for this morning's incident. It seemed some of the perpetrators may have been in cellphone communication with others, trying to arrange for back-up.
At the moment the station commissioner of the KwaNonqaba Police, Lt Col Azisa Madongana is meeting with the school principal to address the situation.
The public order police unit from George will, if necessary, be activated going forward to intervene.
The Director: Communications at the Western Cape Education Department, Bronagh Hammond confirmed the incidents. She said by 12:15 the situation at the school was reported to be calm. "The WCED is trying to arrange a meeting with parents, school management, safe schools and SAPS so that a coordinated plan can be implemented," Hammond said.
