MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - There was a spectacle on Louis Fourie Road - the entrance to Mossel Bay - when dozens of farmers descended on town to collect a welcome donation of mielies to feed their animals.
Their bakkies lined the road for metres on end.
Burre Burger of Vredendal, well known for helping drought-stricken farmers, was in town today, Saturday 21 July. facilitating the distribution of tons of mielies that had been donated to his project.
Amazingly this was Burger's 809 load since he started helping farmers on 6 March 2017 by organising donations of hay, Lucerne or mielies.

Burger said: "I tried to commit suicide in October 2016. When I regained consciousness in hospital, I asked the Lord what I could do for him. I had tried to take my life because I was so tired. I was a Christian then.
"I work with farmers every day and hear them moaning about the drought. I am in the fruit and vegetable export business.
"This maize donation comes from Jesus," he said.
The farmers assembled at Mosselbaai Nissan on Louis Fourie Road, where they enjoyed boerewors rolls braaied at the premises, with meat donated by Tollies Butchery. Another benefactor also sponsored free beers.
Mosselbaai Nissan donated a brand new bakkie to Burger to assist him in his work. The bakkie was handed over today. It was noted at the get together that not many people would make the sacrifices Burger did to assist farmers. He spent many hours on the road, away from his wife and children, in his work.

The bags of mielies were loaded on to the farmers' bakkies from the large truck outside the Nissan dealership. Some of the farmers came from as far as Still Bay.
