MOSSEL BAY NEWS - PetroSA says they note community concerns about unpleasant odours. The latest odour is not related to a previous incident which was attended to at the time.
During yesterday’s meeting with officials from the local and Garden Route District Municipality, PetroSA reported that the oil-mixed stormwater in the ponds near the GTL Refinery as the cause of the odour, and the company has already begun a clean-up process which would take less than two weeks to complete.
The oil in the stormwater is attributable to traces of oil from the plant that were flushed into the stormwater ponds.
PetroSA says in a statement that they care about the health and wellbeing of all stakeholders, from its employees to the residents of our communities, "and thus swiftly launched an investigation immediately after receiving the first reports of odours in communities surrounding its operations."
