Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club:
The Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club congratulates and welcomes Dr Dineo Mazibuko as the new port manager of Mossel Bay.
The club has noted her wide experience, which will certainly stand Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) in good stead in further developing the harbour to its full potential.
The association of the Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club with the Transnet National Ports Authority and its predecessors dates back to 1956, when the club was founded.
The club ensured that Mossel Bay became a world-renowned destination for international sailors as well as a mecca for the yachting, deep-sea angling and scuba diving sports codes, among others.
The club also strongly supported local youth development.
The club premises and facilities, including the yacht moorings inside the harbour, were developed and maintained with members' funds and often personal physical input.
Even when the club had to start paying commercial rental rates for the premises, despite being a registered sports club, it never ever defaulted on its rental and other obligations towards TNPA.
Sadly, the club lost the tender for the premises narrowly to a commercial concern in 2018, which, according to recent media reports, is now in arrears on the monthly rentals to the amount of R3,6 million.
It is hoped Dr Mazibuko will also look into this matter and that the club will be considered favourably if the commercial lease should be terminated.
