The firefighters had to respond to at least another nine fires since about 14:23 this afternoon.
A veld fire was reported behind the PetroSA Centre of Excellence in Bill Jeffrey Drive, then another in Grunter Street, only to have firefighters having to respond to yet another veld fire in the canyon at Extension 13.
Crews were also called upon to respond to another flare-up at Boland Park, and firefighters had to dampen down the embers at the waste disposal site along Louis Fourie Road again. This was followed by a fire along Sole Drive and another in Hope Street in Great Brak River, where houses were in danger. Due to the quick reaction of the firefighting teams the danger to the homes were averted.
In the case of the fire at Boland Park, firefighters are keeping a close watch as the fire is currently in an inaccessible part.
