MOSSEL BAY SAILING NEWS - The False Bay Yacht Club has announced that the Mossel Bay Race (MBR), which usually takes place annually from Simons Town to Mossel Bay, will not take place this year.
A notice on the MBR website states:
"The MBR will not be raced in 2019. MBYBC (Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club) has lost its lease and the sentiment is that we need to act in support of yacht clubs up the coast, in this case MBYBC, which is currently 'homeless'.
"The decision regarding MBR 2020 will be taken in early in the new year."
Race chairman Dale Kushner, based at the False Bay Yacht Club, told the Mossel Bay Advertiser this week: "Because the MBYBC does not lease the premises any more, we cannot finish events there."
The yacht club premises was taken over by the Mossel Bay Waterfront Company for the purpose of a restaurant last year. It is a Transnet National Ports Authority premises. TNPA did not extend the lease of the yacht club and chose the Waterfront Company as a tenant over the yacht club.
Last year's MBR took place on 27 September.
