MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Surf Lifesaving Club (MBSLC) annual prizegiving was held on 10 January and the club lifeguard of the year, Megan Robertson, was rewarded for her hard work and dedication during the holiday season.
The various lifesaving clubs are based at different beaches in the Mossel Bay area. MBSLC is based at Dias Beach.
The club's sportman of the year was Rudi Boer.
He was part of the high performance team and represented South Africa in Japan at the Sanyo Cup.
The sportswoman of the year was announced as Chané Reinecke. She won the Western Cape Lifesaving Championships flags competition and she attained a silver in the beach sprints of the championships, both in her age group, girls U12.
Chané also won a gold medal in the SA Lifesaving Championship flags competition in the girls U12 age group.
The top first-year lifesavers of the club for 2019 were announced as André Fourie and Stephan Ruschenbaum.
Last year was their first year of lifesaving after being a Nipper.

They were rewarded for their "dedication during their training and their help on different beaches during the holiday season".
"Thank you to all the lifeguards who helped to keep the public safe during the festive holiday season. You did a great job," a spokesperson for MBSLC said.
