SPORT NEWS - Two important announcements have been made by the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA), which affect recreational boaters.
In Marine Notice No. 31 of SAMSA's risk-based response to the Covid-19 pandemic, SAMSA lays out all the amended regulations of permissible activities during lockdown level three for small vessels and essential fishing vessels.
The good news is if you have a fishing permit, fishing rod and a current certificate of fitness, you are allowed to get out on the water and do some fishing.
Marine Notice No. 35 of 2020, discusses the implementation of a multi-year SAMSA Levies and Charges increase for the period of 2020 to 2021.
For the first time since September 2017, SAMSA will be effecting an increase in all the levies and charges that include recreational boating.
The proposed fee increase is 8% only.
