SURFING NEWS - Torrential spring made things difficult for the 70 surfers, officials and spectators alike on Day One of the 2017 Boss of Moss Pro Junior at Mossel Bay over the weekend, forcing contest organisers to cut the day short.
This was a good decision as the bad weather moved on overnight as the weather cleared up and Mossel Bay delivered huge onshore surf which produced some explosive surfing.
Eden local, Aya Gericke, East London surfers Tayla de Coning and Zoe Steyn and Kai Woolf of Jeffrey’s Bay, were the stars of the show.
Gericke won the U16 Boys Division and came fourth in the U18 Boys Final, de Coning won the U18 Girls Final and came second in the U16 Girls Division, Steyn was first in the U14 Girls final and third in the U16 Girls Division and 2016 National Junior team member Woolf won the U16 Girls title and came third in the U18 Girls division.
The U14 Boys winner was Luke Thomson of Durban, SA Surf Tour ratings leader Jake Elkington took honours in the U18 Boys division while Kyra Bennie of Vredehoek won the U12 Boys division.
