TENNIS NEWS - Slovakia's 90th-ranked Lukas Lacko made the most of his luck as he reached the Auckland Classic second round on Tuesday following the withdrawal of four players.
The 30-year-old, drafted in to fill the roster as a 'lucky loser' from the qualifying tournament, beat Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 6-3, 6-7 (5/7) 6-3.
Tournament organisers called up four lucky losers after Andrey Rublev, Guido Pella, Ryan Harrison and Kyle Edmund pulled out citing illness or injury.
Men's tennis boss Chris Kermode, who is in Auckland, said ATP policies on player withdrawals – among other rules – were under review.
But Kermode, executive chairman of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), also said he believed the players' reasons for pulling out of Auckland.
