GARDEN ROUTE CYCLING NEWS - Cyclist Linél Engelbrecht stamped her authority on the 2019 Madibaz XCO series in George on Saturday, 25 May.
The event took place at NMU on the challenging course, weaving through the scenic forest, parts of which were ravaged by the recent fires.
Leading the ladies' race from start to finish, Linél quickly showed that she is in top form. She was able to dictate from the front, with her opponents unable to respond.
This victory makes it two out of two for her, with another two races left in the series. One more victory will clinch the series for her. The next race is in August, which also sees the start of the national Spur School Mountain Bike League.
The Spur Series is not well supported or attended by budding or avid cyclists from the schools in Mossel Bay. This can be easily rectified by schools adopting cycling as a recognised sport and giving their athletes the appropriate recognition for their achievements on the track.
Linél's training programme now focuses on preparing for the SA Road Cycling Championships on 22 and 23 June in KwaZulu-Natal.
She has also been awarded Eden Duathlon colours and will participate at the SA Duathlon Championships on 2 July at the Killarney Race Track in Cape Town.
