MOSSEL BAY SPORT NEWS - Local weightlifter, Ruben Burger, broke two South African Records and was placed 20th overall at the 2019 World Weightlifting Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.
Ruben started off with a lower back that was bothering him in the Snatch, but thanks to his coach, he got it loosened up enough to come back strongly in the Clean and Jerk.
With the Snatch he lifted 130kg. In the Clean and Jerk category he lifted 170kg, which is a new South African record and, with a total of 300kg, which is also a new South African record.

He said he had a blast and gained much experience and confidence and looked forward to what the future had to offer.
He thanked the following; @nutritechfit for keeping him fuelled, @gymconcepts for making sure he had all the equipment needed to do what he does best, @edenfitnessmosselbay and @crossfitcharismamosselbay for "purely insane" training facilities, @stretchingsageorge and @ifrsa_iastm for always looking after his recovery and last, but not least, he thanked his "amazing family, friends and members (who are basically family)" and everyone else for always having his back.
