CYCLING NEWS - Eighteen-year-old Cronjé Beukes from George was crowned the South African Marathon Mountain Bike Champion in the junior category this past weekend in Paarl.
Tristan Nortjé (22), also from George, brought home a well-deserved bronze medal in the elite category.
Cronjé, who is also the Western Cape champion in Road Racing, MTB Marathon and MTB Cross Country, rode the perfect race to distance his rivals at the halfway mark on the 60km route.
"He could keep a fierce pace over the remaining 30km to finish close to six minutes ahead of the rest," said his uncle and coach, Matthys Beukes.
Cronjé enjoys sponsorship from Synergy Cycle Sports and Tristan is sponsored by Toyota Specialized.
