MOSSEL BAY HOCKEY NEWS - While the field was set for two teams to compete, crowds moved in to celebrate the meeting of the two at York High School, where Mossel Bay Hockey Club took on Nelson Mandela University (NMU).
NMU students arrived in numbers to support; Mossel Bay supporters were not shy either. NMU came out blazing at full throttle like a bride late for her wedding and this resulted in an early goal. The Mossel Bay men accepted this and settled in for a highly defensive game.
Mossel Bay pushed hard and defended well, attempting to keep the varsity chaps at bay.
Mossel Bay had a number of individual displays of brilliance in the mix of young and old competing well, however, the honeymoon was over, resulting in a healthy win for team NMU.
The IKONic Player of the Week for Mossel Bay was goalie Juan-Dre Nel (19). JD, as teammates know him, is passionate about anything water-related and loves surfing, snorkelling and fishing. He is planning to work on superyachts later in the year.
The team takes on Wanderers in George tomorrow.
The Mossel Bay team played a spirited game.
