MOSSEL BAY HOCKEY NEWS - When you get to the field of play with your team, the idea should be to apply everything you know.
It is for that exact reason that you are on the hockey field in the first place.
A good hockey team will deal with any challenges that may arise in the game and even make a couple of unorthodox decisions on who plays where.
The Mossel Bay men accepted the responsibility of playing their final game of the season in a fine fashion.
The men decided to display their mobility on the field by playing with an extra field player, therefore they would not play with a goalkeeper but rather with an extended back that could use the entire field. This is a very brave decision to make in any game, showing true character and commitment to the club and team.
What makes it more spectacular is when the most senior player in the side steps up to fill the position to be the extra defender, meaning that he only has the protection of a face mask, shin pads, gum guard and a masculinity protector unlike the full kit of a traditional goalkeeper.
The game was played in true sportsmanship with the George men's team tilting the scoreboard in their direction with a marginal win over the Mossel Bay men. Congratulations to George and thanks to the Mossel Bay men who continue to grow in stature as a team and club.
Summer Slammers
Although the club league is complete for 2018, the fun continues with the Summer Slammers league that starts soon. Summer Slammers is seven aside hockey.
The team must have no less than three ladies on the field at all times, with the balance being men. Summer Slammers is for players 16 years and older, with all the games played at night on the Astroturf at the Quarry on Tuesday and Thursday nights/late afternoon for the Junior teams.
A number of exciting items were discussed at the Mossel Bay Men's Hockey Club AGM held recently at Curro Mossel Bay.
One of the many items on the agenda were the development of the game as a whole. The thoughts of a second team being introduced to the league as a development/junior team became a reality to promote the number of brilliant players in Mossel Bay that do not necessarily get exposure to the sport.
In essence, the club wants to grow and be a formidable club that supports all hockey players at all levels. What makes a club more productive are the wonderful sponsors. A huge thank you to Ikon Office Solutions, Delfino's Restaurant and Toyota Mossel Bay for the awesome support. Thank you to all the players and spectators for the dedicated support throughout the season.
