MOSSEL BAY SPORT NEWS - From 5 to 9 March, Sensei Kobus Klue and four of his students - Christopher Smuts, Ruben Vermaak, Kira Price and Mischa Price - from Karate-Do International Mossel Bay Dojo attended an international Karate-Do Gashuku in Stellenbosch.
The Gashuku was a four-day specialised training camp. The karateka were joined by other Karate-Do Dojos from South Africa and other countries. In total there were more than 70 attendees.
The head of the school, Kancho Rony Kluger, joined them from Isreal and the four days were spent sharing valuable organisational information.
It was a great opportunity for all students to meet and spend time training with other teachers and students from around the world and to see how big this family of warriors is.
During the events, various classes and activities, the students from Mossel Bay realised how grateful they are to Shihan André van Vuuren for his long years of committed dedication to growing a community in the area that respects and honours the sport and what a great loss his passing has been.
Mischa Price, one of the karateka, said: "Although we cannot give thanks in person, we offer our deep gratitude and respect to him by honouring his memory every time we practise karate.
"We congratulate Ruben Vermaak and Christopher Smuts, two of our most dedicated and committed members, for achieving their black belt first Dan. They received a great honour, being awarded their certificates by Kancho Kluger on 9 March as part of the Gashuku proceedings."
The students at Karate-Do International Mossel Bay thanked all the businesses that sponsored the raffle last year and made it possible to attend the International Gashuku and do some upgrades to the Dojo.
"We look forward to attending more events and continuing to grow our karate community," says Price
