MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The annual gruelling Diaz Vasbyt is taking place today, on Thursday 23 March and tomorrow, Friday 24 March. The endurance walk stretches over 75km.
Each team consists of six athletes and they participate over a period of two days.
Usually, athletes cover the longest distance, which ranges between 40 and 45km on day one and finish the Vasbyt with a further 30km on the second day of the event.
They have to walk over sandy beaches, railroad tracks, gravel roads, mountain passes and even dry riverbeds.
The idea of the race is to bond people as teams, to have them commit to the challenge and one another to reach the finish line together, no matter what they encountered along the way.
