MOSSEL BAY SPORT NEWS - After Linél Engelbrecht's victory in the 40km Hartenbos MTB race in December, she has started 2020 with some outstanding performances.
She participated in the Western Cape Road Cycling Championships held in Paarl.
In the U17 girls' Individual Time Trial, she successfully defended and retained her title of champion that she won in 2019.
In the tough road race and hard-fought battle with Cape Town rider, Anna Marx, she pipped Marx at the line into second place.
Over the past weekend, Linél's focus turned to the Momentum Health mini Attakwas Extreme MTB event.
Racing in the shorter distance of 52km and in challenging conditions due to the welcome and persisting rains, she did not disappoint. At times visibility was severely hampered by falling rain but she persevered to finally finish in sixth place lady overall and as first youth girl in a credible time of 2 hours 23 minutes.
Another Mossel Bay local, Cady Prinsloo, finished fourth overall. Oudtshoorn will be hosting the Eden Road Cycling Championships this weekend and Linél will be participating and one can expect another outstanding performance from her.
