MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Linél Engelbrecht, a talented, local multisport athlete, participated in the 2019 Discovery Duathlon at Greenpoint Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday, 10 February.
She competed in the super sprint event as a school individual entrant. Linél was victorious, finishing first female overall and first female school individual. She also finished in a credible sixth place overall in a field of more than 100 entrants.
Linél vindicated her loss in 2018 after her disappointing disqualifi-cation after being misdirected by a marshal on the cycling leg. She completed the 2.5km run / 10km cycle / 2.5km run in 39 minutes, 19 seconds.
The race pace was hampered by strong winds on the cycling leg on the promenade past Mouille Point.
She now starts her preparation for the SA Triathlon Championships, SA Road Cycling Championships and the SA Duathlon Championships in March, May and June respectively.
This racing programme will be followed by the Eden XCO and Spur MTB series. Linél is a Grade 9 learner at Curro Mossel Bay.
