MOSSEL BAY CYCLING NEWS - Last weekend's Eden district mountain bike racing saw Linél Engelbrecht from Curro Mossel Bay walk away with a well-deserved double victory.
On the Saturday, she participated in the Tour de Farm MTB XCM race in George at the Four Brothers Potato Storage, and celebrated the inaugural International Women's MTB Day with a convincing win.
The Sunday saw the second race in the Madibaz MTB XCO series take place at NMMU, Saasveld. Linél has adapted quickly to the fast paced technical discipline and raced the course to go on and win with a substantial time difference to her closest competitor. Linél tops the sub-junior girls' XCO league standings with two more races to go.
Rohan Swanepoel, who is Linél's cycling coach and training partner, did not disappoint either. A hard-fought contest in the Elite men's race in the Tour de Farm event saw him outpacing his competitors to go on and win the race for the second year. Some of the riders opted not to participate on the day as they would be competing in the Madibaz XCO race the next day.
The XCO race saw some fresh legs and stiff competition and Rohan went on to finish in a credible and well-deserved 4th place in the Elite men's race and currently he lies fourth overall in the XCO league points standing.
