MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Alderman Niklaas Booisen, standing in for mayor Dirk Kotze, gave a speech at an opening function on 12 March, for the international angling championships taking place in Mossel Bay this week.
He welcomed the competitors from Luxembourg, Gibraltar and South Africa. The competition is being hosted by the South African Light Tackle Boat Angling Association (SALTBAA).
Booisen welcomed the SALTBAA management and FIPS-M president Gilbert Zangerle and secretary general Attilio La Porta of FIPS-M and guests.
He said said: “The executive mayor, Mayoral Committee and council have been working very hard to accelerate the implementation of our GROW Strategy.”
This strategy comprised:
• GROW Governance – Continued service delivery excellence
• GROW Economy – credibility for economic growth
• GROW Environment – investing in future generations through preserving our environment
• GROW Social Regeneration – cross inclusive partnerships
• GROW Safety – a safer environment for the Mossel bay citizens
Booisen continued: In line with our efforts to GROW the economy and position Mossel Bay as a town that is open for business and an ideal location for world class events, we welcome the FIPS-M Light Tackle Boat Angling Championship to Mossel Bay.”
He pointed out: “The Toughest Firefighter Alive Challenge, the Ironman 70.3, the Buffalo Rally, Vodacom Golf Sunshine Tour Final, South African Mid-Amateur Golf Championships, and the South African Kickboxing Championships have all made Mossel Bay their destination of choice.
“The Toughest Firefighter Alive Challenge and the Ironman 70.3 will be in our town for at least another two years and, we are confident, beyond that.”
Booisen said: “I mention all of these events to show that Mossel Bay is ready to host the FIPS-M Light Tackle Boat Angling Championship.
“The Championship is in good company when it comes to major events in Mossel Bay. Thank you for choosing us as a destination and we look forward to partnering with you in the years to come.”
A supper was held at the town hall for the anglers and dignitaries.
