MOSSEL BAY GOLF NEWS - Mossel Bay’s Martin Vorster carded 70 yesterday in the African Amateur Stroke Play Championship and started the final round on four-under today, Thursday 11 February..
He is the defending champion of the competition and also last week's SA Stroke Play competition winner.
He finished yesterday, tied in seventh place with Simon du Plooy and Altin van der Merwe.
Casey Jarvis moved into a two-shot lead and within touching distance of the GolfRSA South African Swing trifecta yesterday.
Jarvis achieved the rare double last year – winning the SA Stroke Play and SA Amateur titles in the same calendar year – and the 17-year-old took a huge step towards achieving the hat-trick with a six under par third round 66 at Glendower Golf Club.
The State Mines golfer teed off with a one-shot lead over Kieron van Wyk and his GolfRSA National Squad stablemate almost immediately applied pressure.

Jarvis birdied the second, but Van Wyk answered with an eagle on the par five. When Jarvis dropped on the third, Van Wyk’s birdie moved him two shots clear. A Jarvis birdie on the sixth and a bogey from Van Wyk levelled the scores, but Jarvis edged ahead again with an eagle on the par-five eighth.
Despite the bogey finish, Jarvis remained at the summit on 14 under.
Reigning Amateur Champion Joe Long disqualified himself.
Long carded for a 74, but not long after he handed in his signed card, the Englishman returned to the scoring area to declare that he had signed for par on the fifth, when in fact he had dropped a shot.’
