Not a single soul cancelled, which is testimony to the popularity of one of the most anticipated days on our golfing calendar.
The annual Valentine's mixed competition is organised by the women's section of the club - and organise it they did indeed, with specially wrapped chocolates, heart decorated score cards and super snack platters at the end of the day.
So in spite of, at times, near gale force winds, each and every golfer returned to base camp with a happy smile, having obviously had a good day, and set about enjoying the warmth and companionship of fellow golfers as we reminisced about the puts that didn't drop!
The format on this day is always a 4 ball alliance with at least one lady per covey, and from the shouts and cheers that echoed around the course through the afternoon, it was obvious that some teams were on a roll!
The winning team of Monica Slavin, Gabriel Smith, Richard Sambolec and Rudi Muller must have been on more than a roll, because they finished with a score of 97 points, which given the weather conditions, was astonishingly good! Their nearest rivals were Annette Meyer, Bertus Mare, Kokkie Rall and Dirk Leibrandt with a very plausible 92 points and a close third with 91 points was the team of Magda and Johan Griessel, Ina Swart and Rita Wienand.
Prizes for nearest the pins were won by Dawn Wessels, Annette Meyer, Richard Sambolec and Rudi Muller.
The biggest winner of all was the camaraderie and goodwill shared by people brought together by this wonderful game and St Valentine!
