MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Not only was Mossel Bay @ home, but 104 players from all over the Garden Route were made to feel very at home last Thursday as they arrived for our annual showcase golf day.
The girls were treated to tables laden with every imaginable treat, supplied by the Mossel Bay ladies, accompanied by special coffee or tea. On registration each player received a beautifully decorated box filled with "survival" goodies for the day with an encouraging letter of welcome.
The format was a betterball, and in the wonderful spirit of the day most of the couples competing had gone the extra mile, dressing in delightful matching outfits, making for a colourful and pretty sight as the girls dispersed to their allotted tee boxes to await the 09:00 'shotgun' start.
On some of the tees, just to keep the women hydrated, there were lovely lasses under gazebos with some more nibbles and a variety of liquid refreshments. These are always very popular spots.
The golf was good on the whole, and if not so, still enjoyable, verified by many a whoop and holler resonating across the fairways of our course (or were they from the watering holes?)
Results for the day are as follows: 1st Monica Steyn and Marialese Coetzee (46 points); 2nd Jackie Braisher and Driekie Parker (46 points count out); 3rd Vanessa Henning and Gwen Rothman (45); 4th Marina Juta and Ina Swart (44); 5th Candice Reynolds and Nadene Meyer (43); 6th Daleen Rowe and Esme Orr (43); 7th Helen Hills and Yolandi van der Westhuizen (43); 8th Shirley Pressley and Tertia Mitchell (43); 9th Annette Pretorius and Hettie Bruwer (42); 10th Gail Botha and Gloria Greyvenstein (42).
Nearest to pins went to: Liz Keller, Martie du Toit, Wilma Loubser, Ilze Nel and Marina Juta.
Longest drives (that stayed on the fairway!) went to: Nadene Meyer, Candice Reynolds and Irene Schoeman. After the golf everyone enjoyed a lovely meal served at tables beautifully decorated by our hardworking ladies' committee.
Special thanks must go to our many and generous sponsors, without which a day like this is impossible: Fine & Country, Mossel Bay Golf Club and the Homeowners' Association, Hartenbos Spar, Global Golf, Emthunzini Hats, Annique and Dianke Promotions.
Also a big thanks to Jenny and Barbara for selling raffle tickets and welcoming everyone with their very special smiles and the Mossel Bay Golf Club staff and our manager, Graeme, for their enthusiastic and continued support of the ladies' section.
