This event was the brain child of one of our very innovative swallows, Marlies Morgan, who together with Laetitia Higgs and the very generous sponsorship of Les Lloyd's interior and exterior decorators, put together a golf day, which was not only unique in its format, but somehow captured the imagination of every lady member who entered.
There were eight teams representing all of the well-known South African Rugby franchises, and for a week before, there was a buzz of excitement as the girls had clandestine meetings to arrange their outfits and war cries for the day. The picture that presented itself on the day was nothing short of dazzling, with banners, flags and all manner of attire to represent each chosen rugby team.
It did not stop there, as the teams whooped there specially arranged "Hakka's" and generally made as much noise as they could!
Then it was down to some serious golf, and so as to keep the mood light hearted, a few fun holes were added, like kicking a rugby ball off the second tee box to determine where the team could T-off (pity we could not have imported Francois Steyn for this job!).
Throughout the afternoon, one could still hear the hollering of "Stormers", the "Haai Haaing" of the Sharks, the growling of the Lions or hissing of the Cheetahs, not to mention the 'snorting' of the Bulls and a lot more!
Suffice to say that a simply super time was had by all, and the afternoon finished off with some well put together and much appreciated platters of food and beverage.
A huge vote of thanks to Les and those involved in organising this day, and hats off to a fabulous innovation, which we understand could turn out to be an annual occurrence!
The winning team scoring a century, was the Cheetahs, with a little nudge from the Bulls! The Cheetahs were represented by Annette Pretorius, Louise Muller, Dawn Wessels and Sue Wright (a Cheetah dressed up in Bulls clothing!).
The Lions were awarded the prize for the team with the best spirit as they roared their way round the course. Best scrummy was Rita Wienand (not because of her prowess in the scrums!). Best Kicker was Ina Swart (beware Mr Jantjies!).
Louise Muller ran away with the best wing prize and Sue Wright was the best Captain (not sure who she was batting for!). Irene Schoeman, another Bull, nabbed a nearest the pin prize.
The winning team of Annette Pretorius, Sue Wright, Louise Muller and Dawn Wessels.
