FOOTBALL NEWS - A second-half late goal from Siphosethu Sidumo helped Raul Stars secure a 1-1 draw against Paris United in an entertaining Regional Men's League game on Saturday 18 February at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
Both teams are fighting their way up to the top eight of the Regional League log table, but unfortunately for Paris United, Yamkela Mhambi netted an own goal, while Raul Stars captain Lindokuhle Dassie showed great leadership in a fast-paced Thembalethu derby that showcased some enterprising play.
Siyabonga Aseni of Raul Stars missed the first chance of the game when his strike went wide. Both sides were playing skilful football by creating scoring opportunities in the box.
Nkosiyethu Seyibokwe of Raul Stars missed the target when his powerful shot went over the bar. Paris United used their strength on the ball to create chances on the flanks with Odwa Petersen on the left side and Mandlenkosi Prusente on the right. After the first half ended without any goals scored, the second half started on fire with Paris United again attacking very strongly on the flanks.
Raul Stars were playing some superb touches from the centre of the field. Odwa Peterson delivered a delightful cross inside the box, forcing Raul Stars defender Yamkela Mhambi to clear the ball in the wrong direction and cause an own goal to make it 1-0.
Raul Stars kept on pushing on the right side of the field. Aseni Siyabonga delivered an excellent cross inside the box and Siphosethu Sidumo scored an equalising goal with a powerful header to make it 1-1.
Paris United tried to come back into the game but it was too late for them to score the winning goal.
After the game, Mhambi said he was very unhappy about scoring an own goal. He said he was fighting for his team with everything he had, but made a big mistake inside the box, adding that with more games still to be played, he hoped to redeem himself.
