MOSSEL BAY SOCCER NEWS - This week sees match day 3 out of 6 taking place in the UEFA Champions League.
Yesterday saw eight games taking place with another eight games taking place tonight. Yesterday’s match day saw three teams scoring 5 goals in a game.
PSG took on Club Brugge and won the game 5-0, Manchester City played Atalanta and the match finished 5-1 for Man City and Tottenham Hotspurs beat Crvena Zvezda from Serbia 5-0 at full time. Real Madrid played against Galatasaray from Turkey and won the match 1-0.
One of tonight’s big matches in the UEFA Champions League is between Ajax from the Netherlands and Chelsea. Ajax has won both of their previous matches to put them on top of Group H. Head coach Frank Lampard will be well aware that another loss will put them out of contention for the last round of 16.
Last weekend saw the match day 9 of the English Premier League. League leaders Liverpool had their first draw in five matches against struggling Manchester United on Sunday. Fifteenth placed Everton had a shock victory against West Ham United. They beat the East London team 2-0 on Saturday. Sheffield United also racked up some points and beat Arsenal 1-0 on Monday.
The South Yorkshire team is currently on 9th position on the log. This coming weekend sees match day 10 of the tournament. A few interesting matches of this coming weekend will be between Arsenal vs Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspurs vs Liverpool on Sunday.
The La Liga in Spain is also heating up with Barcelona currently at the top of the league with 19 points ahead of Real Madrid. Saturday saw one of the upsets of the weekend when RCD Mallorca beat Real Madrid 1-0. The El Clásico that would have taken place this weekend between bitter rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid is unfortunately postponed due to the Catalan protests in Barcelona.
The date of the El Clásico still needs to be announced and coach Zinedine Zidane might be happy his team gets a rest after playing and winning in the Champions League against Galatasaray yesterday.
There are only a few points separating the top 6 teams in the tournament at the moment and there is still another 30 weekends of football left in both the La Liga and the English Premier League.
