GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Plettenberg Bay local Jean du Plessis has been included in the Cape Cobras squad by head coach Ashwell Prince for the upcoming Momentum One-day Cup (MODC) season.
The wicketkeeper/batsman is a former SA u.19 player and will be out to make an impact for his franchise in the absence of regular wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne, who is on national duty with the Proteas test squad in Pakistan.
Du Plessis made his debut for SWD in 2016 while still at school at Glenwood House in George, and has captained a South African Invitational XI in tour matches against England in January 2020.
The 22-year-old will be hoping to make his mark. "As a young boy growing up in the Western Cape it has always been my dream to represent the Cape Cobras and play professional cricket," he says. "It is a dream come true. I am extremely happy to be in their squad and hope to make the opportunity count."
He has been hard at work in the off-season, and this shows in that he bagged himself a century in one of the two warm-up games the Cobras played in preparation for the MODC.
