Cross country men and women to race 10km

NATIONAL NEWS - Athletics South Africa (ASA) confirmed on Tuesday it had implemented a new International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) rule, changing senior men’s and women’s cross country race distances to 10km.

While the IAAF rule would be in force only in November, the ASA cross country commission had recommended the domestic rule be changed with immediate effect.

“The programme of the SA Cross Country Championships, scheduled for September 12, will be adjusted accordingly,” the federation told its members.

“Provinces are requested to implement this rule change in their league meetings and provincial championships in preparation for the SA Championships.”
