TRAVEL NEWS - The Garden Route stretches over 300 kilometers of the southern coast from Heidelberg to the Tsitsikamma Forest and Storms River.
It is one of the world’s most inspiring self-drive routes; encompassing a landscape of lakes, mountains, lush forests, sparkling rivers, and sun-kissed beaches.
A trip along the Garden Route is about discovering South Africa’s natural beauty and quaint towns that all full of flair and flavour. The Tsitsikamma is the highlight on a tour of the garden route because it is the pinnacle of the Cape Floral Kingdom, with approximately 30% of the park covered in fynbos.
Along the way, one will come across an array of adventure activities, including scuba diving, abseiling, fishing, hiking, and boat cruises. Saving the best for last, the Tsitsikamma National Park is the last stop on the Garden Route and is a spectacular marine and land wonderland, boasting indigenous forests, beaches, deep gorges, and the mighty Storms River.
Storms River Mouth Rest Camp nestles at the mouth of a small swimming beach where one can often see dolphins surfing in the breakers and southern right whales close to shore during breeding season. But it is not the only adventure to be had here. One can also enjoy a variety of marine and river activities, kayaking, snorkelling, bungee jumping, scuba diving, boat cruises, wilderness trails, abseiling & climbing, hiking, mountain biking, and ziplining.
Storms River Mouth Rest Camp is a great place for families, solo travellers, and couples who are looking for comfortable self-catering accommodation and the flexibility to do as little or as many activities as they want.
It is a great option for families who love the outdoors and prefer family cottages that can accommodate four people comfortably, or the opportunity to camp beneath the African sky. With a restaurant, laundry, small grocery shop, nearby fuel station, and information centre; one doesn’t really need anything else.
The Tsitsikamma National Park is part of the Garden Route National Park which collectively boasts 85 species of mammals and 371 species of birds. Storms River Mouth Rest Camp is the perfect base from which to explore the Tsitsikamma Forest and view species such as the African black oystercatcher, Knysna lourie, Cape clawless otter, vervet monkeys, and the blue duiker.
