MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay executive mayor Alderman Harry Levendal calls on residents to open their hearts in support of the less fortunate.
"Covid-19 and the resultant national lockdown have caught many of our community off guard, especially people earning daily and weekly wages and those dependent upon grants. "They are hardest hit as they could not make provisions upfront for a prolonged period without any income.
"Mossel Bay residents have always rallied around to assist whenever there is a need. I call on you now to assist by donating non-perishable food, toiletries, and sanitiser for our residents who are facing hunger and hardship," Alderman Levendal urges.
All major food retailers will cooperate by making collection bins available in-store, and donations may also be dropped off at the fire stations in either Mossel Bay or Great Brak River. Firefighters will package the donations and ensure they are properly sanitised before they are distributed to those in need.
"A list of items needed is available on the municipal facebook page. I urge residents to buy at least an extra can of food for someone who needs to feed their children."
Residents are reminded of the purpose of the lockdown: to self-isolate to prevent the spread of the virus. Residents who do not perform essential services are required to stay at home to stay safe.
