MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - Mossel Bay was treated to the sight of a fleet of Maserati vehicles in Bland Street on Thursday.
The luxury Italian sports car brand first began as a car workshop opened by three brothers, Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto Maserati, on 1 December 1914.
In 1926 the brothers unveiled their first racing car and the iconic brand was born. The vehicles and their owners stopped in Mossel Bay as part of the Maserati Global Gathering 2020. Only the second of its kind, the first took place in Australia in 2018.
The first gathering was the brainchild of Australian, John Gove. Gove told the Mossel Bay Advertiser that it was his first visit to Mossel Bay, although he is no stranger to Cape Town.

The Maserati Global Gathering offered Maserati owners from clubs all around the world the opportunity to get together and enjoy a road trip together. Their South African experience was from 28 February to 8 March, involving a circular tour of the coast, beginning and ending in Cape Town.

Despite difficulties with South Africa's high import tariffs causing a large number of would-be participants to drop out due to the high costs involved in shipping their vehicles to South Africa, the event had a good turnout. Maseratis were sourced locally for the international visitors to drive.
During their short stopover they enjoyed coffee at the Aeronautica Business Lounge, marvelling at the décor, a mix of steam punk, industrial and vintage items representative of the motoring and military industry. During their visit, the group also had an exclusive tour of Super Veloce, where state-of-the-art coffee machines are constructed. Maserati owners from as far afield as Switzerland and Norway took part in the event.
