MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The I&J Western Cape Nippers Championships took place from 29 February to 1 March in Hout Bay.
The championships were hosted by Llandudno Surf Lifesaving Club. There were 13 participating clubs and 440 competitors.
The overall winners were Fish Hoek, with Llandudno second and Clifton, third.
Mossel Bay Surf Lifesaving Club (MBSLC) took ninth place.
Only four members of MBSLC took part.
Results:
U10 girl, Rebekah van Coller: run swim run 8th; body board race 10th; surf swim 11th.
U12 boy, Marko Roodt: flags and beach sprint semi-finals; board race 12th; 1km beach run and run swim run 14th.
U13 girl, Chané Reinecke: beach sprints silver; flags bronze; board (Malibu) race 4th; iron nipper 10th; surf swim 11th.
U14 girl, Channah van Coller: surf swim 10th. She was still recovering after a nasty fall from a horse the previous week.
Chané Reinecke was overall fourth of the U13 girls at the championships.
"The club is very proud of our Nippers, who showed determination and took on the cold water with a smile. The water temperature ranged from 10 to 14 degrees Celsius," a MBSLC spokesperson said.
