The hottest design and decor trend for 2017 will be excess and a return to a "new maximalist" approach, as we embark on a renewed optimism and balance. "Life is short; we are going to surround ourselves with objects we love, in contrasting colours and textures," he says. "The 'defining look' is gone - it's all about being true to oneself. The result will be eclectic and personal. Gone are the days of square angular furniture; now it's about softer, rounder, more romantic shapes and silhouettes."
Nature is a big inspiration in 2017, giving us an opportunity to connect with nature and bring it indoors into our high-tech environments. Very often trends work on extremes, swinging from one side of the pendulum to the other, so the return to nature and the colour green acts as a reminder for us to connect and be aware.
A fern-like green colour of the year is influencing design and decor for 2017. This shade is inspired by nature, hope and fresh beginnings and its specific tone gives us a warning to be more sensible and responsible with nature. Coming out of the chaos of 2016 this colour provides a new, more refreshed, optimistic outlook.
When it comes to the most popular colour choice in design and decor however, the focus for the year is going to be on a softer dirty greige pink or blush colour combined with natural fibres and neutral tones.
